Six Sochi goals bring Rubin another big defeat

print version

Rubin Kazan 0-6 FC Sochi
Saturday 30 April, Ak Bars Arena

Goals: Sochi - Margasov (26), Joaozinho (42), Cassierra (52), Zaika (82), Popov (84), Melkadze (90+1)
Man of the Match: Ivelin Popov (Sochi)

Last win over Arsenal shined a light for Rubin, who had five-game winless streak before, but facing Sochi at home turned into a nightmare. Firstly, Timofey Margasov scored his second goal this spring after being assisted by Mateo Cassierra, later Joaozinho pulled the ball from the free kick, and Yury Dyupin could not save it. That was the third goal scored by Joaozinho from the free kick, the second best result this season after Akhmat master Danill Utikn with five goals.

In the beginning of the second half Cassierra finally got his chance to score, and he made it after dribbling against the defence line. But the worst parts for the hosts were the final ten minutes, when Kirill Zaika, Ivelin Popov and Georgy Melkadze turned the defeat into the biggest for Rubin in the RPL just a month later since 1-6 loss to CSKA in Moscow. Also this is the second time Sochi scored six in a game after a 10-1 win over Rostov two years ago.

Rubin remain 11th on 29 points, while Sochi before the CSKA match in Grozny go third on 49 points.

Next RPL fixtures: Saturday 7 May - CSKA Moscow vs Sochi; Sunday 8 May - Lokomotiv Moscow vs Rubin Kazan
