On August 16, at an extraordinary general meeting of the Russian Premier Liga clubs, the election of the league president was held.
The election commission registered one candidate, Aleksandr Alaev, who has been acting president of the league since 27 June. The participants of the general meeting unanimously supported the election of Aleksandr Aleksandrovich as the new head of the RPL. The term of office will be five years.
Aleksandr Alaev is the eighth president in the league's history. Previously, this post was held by Vitaly Mutko (2001–2003), Valery Filatov (2003, acting), Evgeny Giner (2003–2004), Yury Zavarzin (2004–2006), Mikhail Vorontsov (2006–2007), Sergey Pryadkin (2007–2021) and Ashot Khachaturyants (2021–2022).
Since 2012, Aleksandr Aleksandrovich has worked at the RFU, where he held the positions of executive and general director, acted as president, and since 2019 he has been general secretary. From February 2021 to July 2022, he led the Football National League as president.
