Dynamo Moscow have appointed Sandro Schwarz as their new permanent head coach on a two-year deal. The 41-year-old’s only top-flight experience as sole head coach at 1. FSV Mainz 05, from whom he joins the Russian Premier Liga club.
Schwarz will be assisted by former Dynamo striker Andriy Voronin, who played for the club for three seasons between 2010-2012 and for the 2013-14 campaign, and former Hannover, Schalke and Paderborn assistant manager Volkan Bulut.
Schwarz played alongside Jurgen Klopp at Mainz, and then under him once the current Liverpool manager hung up his boots to take charge of the side. He spent four years cutting his teeth in the lower leagues before rejoining Mainz as a youth team coach while Paris Saint Germain boss Thomas Tuchel was in charge of the senior side.
Schwarz is reunited at Dynamo with sporting director Zeljko Buvac, Klopp’s long-time assistant who coached him for three years at Mainz. In his final season as a player Schwarz earned promotion to the Bundesliga, but is yet to win any major honours as manager.
