Valery Karpin & Rostov officially part ways, club appoints Jonatan Alba

FC Rostov released the official statement from Valery Karpin.

The coach announced his departure from the club, as he will concentrate on job of Russia national team manager. Karpin had been combining both jobs since March 2022, when he came back to Rostov.

As Rostov president Artashes Arutyunyants noted, the rest of coaching staff stay with the team. The club appointed 43-year-old Spaniard Jonatan Alba as the new head coach, he was Karpin’s assistant in Rostov and Russia national team.

During Karpin’s second stage of work Rostov made 40 wins, 22 draws and 27 losses in 89 RPL matches. Karpin was named the Manager of the Month by the league four times, the last award was won in March 2024. First time coach worked with the Yellow-Blues was from December 2017 to August 2021.

Rostov will resume RPL season facing Dynamo Moscow at home on Sunday 2 March. Team goes seventh after the first part of the season.
