Ural Ekaterinburg released the statement on parting ways with head coach Viktor Gancharenko following the 0-2 defeat against Akron in RPL relegation playoff.
Club president Grigory Ivanov said: “We thank Viktor Mikhaylovich for almost two years spent in Ekaterinburg. Unfortunately, we state, that the goal for first relegation playoff leg was not completed. The team needs changes”.
Assistant coach Evgeny Averyanov will take on the preparations for second fixture against Akron, which will take place in Zhigulevsk, Samara Region, on 1 June. Last time Averyanov became interim manager was in August 2022, when Ural end drawn against Fakel in RPL.
It was second time, when Gancharenko coached Ural. Belorussian coach was hired back in August 2022, seven years after his first coming. Ural finished 2022/23 season eleventh, and Gancharenko was named RPL Coach of the Month in October 2022. In 2023/24 season the Orange-Blacks became fourteenth.
