Matvey Safonov moves to PSG

Football clubs Krasnodar and Paris Saint-Germain officially competed deal on goalkeeper Matvey Safonov.

25-year-old player joined PSG on five-year contract, 12-time French champions reported. This is third time, when PSG signed player from RPL club, previously these were Sergey Semak (in 2005 moved from CSKA) and Leandro Paredes (joined from Zenit in 2019). Before RPL era Igor Yanovsky moved from Russian top league club (Alania) to Paris in 1998.

Safonov is Krasnodar Academy graduate, who spent whole career in native club. Matvey made RPL debut on 13 August 2017 facing Amkar. Totally Safonov played 147 matches in the league keeping clean sheet 47 times. The goalkeeper became two-time RPL bronze medalist, but in the previous season led Krasnodar to first ever league silver medals. Safonov was named 2023/24 season best goalkeeper at Winline RPL Heroes award ceremony.

Goaltender made national team debut in 2021 and participated at UEFA EURO 2020. Now Safonov has 14 caps for Russia.
