print version

The Russian under-21 team beat Latvia 4-1 in RIga in the final match of Euro 2021 qualification and made it directly through to the final stage of the tournament.

Goals were scored by Konstantin Kuchaev (28th minute), Roman Evgenyev (51st), Daniil Lesovoy (55th) and Alexander Lomovitsky (85th).

Mikhail Galaktionov's team accumulated 23 points in 10 games and guaranteed first place in Group 5 and direct access to the finals. Russia’s closest challengers were Poland, who are seven points behind with two matches in hand.

Russia will compete at the Under-21 European Championships for the first time since 2013, when the team under Nikolay Pisarev’s leadership took fourth place in a group with Spain, the Netherlands and Germany.

The final stage of Euro 2021 will be held in Hungary and Slovenia in two stages. From 24 to 31 March, a group tournament will be held in which 16 teams - other than the hosts, the nine winners of the qualifying groups and the top five second-placed teams - will be divided into four groups of four participants. The top two teams from each group will advance to the playoffs, which will be held from 31 May to 6 June. The final of the tournament will be hosted by Ljubljana.
