Rostov put a real spanner in the works of Spartak’s title challenge with a shock 1-0 win away to the league leaders, despite going down to 10 men for the last quarter of an hour. Pavel Mamaev’s precise finish earned Valery Karpin his fourth win in his last five games against his former club in the first half. Denis Hadzikadunic was shown a second yellow card in the 75th minute, but Rostov held on for an invaluable win.

Spartak stay two points clear at the top of the table on 27 points, while Rostov shoot up to fourth on 23 points.
