Former Ufa winger Oleksandr Zinchenko lashed in a fierce opener to give Ukraine a vital lead at Hampden Park, before delivering the key ammunition at the death for Artem Dovbyk. Andriy Yarmolenko crafted a delightful outside-of-the-boot cross from the right to find Premier League champion Zinchenko lurking in enough space and time to slam a powerful half-volley through 

The woodwork was struck at either end within 10 minutes of the restart as Serhiy Sydorchuk curled a vicious shot against the outside of the post, before Sweden goalscorer Forsberg then went up the other end almost immediately. Latching onto a first-class ball from Alexander Isak into the area, his carefully placed effort dipped agonisingly against the post to leave the scores level.

Forsberg was a man on a mission, hitting the woodwork yet again with about 20 minutes remaining, this time smacking the crossbar with a fierce swerving drive.

Neither side could break the deadlock within 90 minutes so extra-time was required. Viktor Claesson and Marcus Berg came off the bench a few minutes in, but within seconds of the Krasnodar pair entering the fray their side went down to 10 men when Marcus Danielson was sent off for a dangerous lunge. Clubmate Kristoffer Olsson was then sacrificed as Sweden shuffled their lineup to cope.

Sweden held firm until agonising heart-break in added time of extra-time, when a sumptuous deep cross from Zinchenko found the stooping head of substitute Dovbyk, who expertly diverted past Robin Olsson.

Ukraine meet England in the quarter-finals at 22:00 MSK on Saturday 3 July in the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.
