Dreyer steals dramatic late win for Rubin

print version

Akhmat Grozny 1-2 Rubin Kazan
Monday 7 March, Akhmat Arena

Goals: Akhmat - Utkin 3'; Rubin - Lisakovich 50’, Dreyer 90+1’
Man of the Match: Daniil Utkin (Akhmat)

Daniil Utkin wasted no time in setting Akhmat on course, curling in a beautiful free kick in the third minute. It was his seventh goal of the season, and fifth from direct set-pieces, making him the RPL's free-kick leader.

Darko Todorovic forced a sensational fingertip save from Yuri Dyupin. After the Bosnian full-back cut in from the right, he hit a left-footed dipping shot which the Rubin keeper somehow reached in time to edge onto the crossbar.

At the start of the second period there was another goal, but this time for the visitors - and there was little surprise, given his recent form, who was responsible. Akhmat inexplicably left Khvicha Kvaratskhelia completely free on the left flank, from where he drove at the defence with classic wing play before drilling a cross towards Vitaly Lisakovich, who stabbed a well-controlled first-time shot past Giorgi Shelia for his fifth goal in three games since joining Rubin.

Shelia was at fault in added time to devastating effect though. He slipped badly as Anders Dreyer raced through after a delicate Lisakovich touch pass, leaving the Danish forward a simpler task to curl a simple finish past the scrambling keeper to seal a late winner.

Akhmat stay seventh on 30 points, while Rubin go 10th on 25 points.
