Luzhniki Stadium is back on the RPL map, mostly thanks to Torpedo, who will host next opponents at the biggest Russian arena. It was the first league game on the stadium since May 2013, when Spartak and Krylia Sovetov shared points with 1-1 draw. Torpedo played here last time also in spring 2013 hosting Spartak Nalchik and Salyut Belgorod in the FNL matches. CSKA were welcomed at the updated stadium in autumn 2018, when they faced there Real Madrid, AS Roma and Victoria Plzen in the Champions League matches.

Torpedo entered the derby after getting win against Sochi, the first one in the official tournaments, but they were lacking the first RPL win. There came their new signings, Serbian giant Stefan Sapic tipped the cross from Igor Smolnikov to break the deadlock. CSKA missed big chances, Bakhtiyar Zaynutdinov could not score to the empty net in the first half, Fedor Chalov hit the post after the half-time. The Armymen made 19 attempts during the game, only one shot went on target. Torpedo won the first home RPL match at Luzhniki in almost 16 years.

Despite winning Torpedo are still bottom of the standings having four points, while CSKA stay second on 20 points.

Next RPL fixtures: Saturday 1 October – Khimki vs CSKA; Sunday 2 October – Fakel vs Torpedo
