print version

RPL Relegation Playoff
2nd leg

Alron Togliatti 1-2 Ural Ekaterinburg
Goals:
Akron – Ponce (47); Ural – Begic (74, 79)

Ural reacted on two-goal defeat, suffered at home three days before, replacing Viktor Gancharenko with local legend Evgeny Averyanov. It did not work out at first, and when Andres Ponce, played in RPL for Anzhi, Akhmat and Rotor, scored at second half start, the aggregate Akron lead increased to three-goal. As time passed by, Ural tried to force comeback, and defender Silvije Begic succeeded as striker scoring twice in five minutes. It was close for the guests to lead the game to extra time, but Eric Bicfalvi could not beat Sergey Volkov, and Ural did not find the target anymore.

Akron won 3-2 on aggregate and reached first ever RPL promotion just six years after club foundation, while Ural will leave the top league after 11 consecutive seasons having one top eight finish in 2015/16 season.
