Bakaev brilliance sparks Spartak derby win over Dynamo

print version

Dynamo Moscow 0-2 Spartak Moscow

Goals: Bakaev (30’), Zobnin (62’)

Man of the Match: Zelimkhan Bakaev

Zelimkhan Bakaev took advantage of Domenico Tedesco’s ambitious midfield setup to score the winner for Spartak in the Moscow derby at Dynamo’s VTB Arena. After half an hour Ayrton Lucas robbed the ball off Clinton N’Jie and fed Bakaev, who swiftly moved it onto Aleksandr Sobolev. The return ball released Bakaev into the box and his cool finish found the bottom corner.

The game began with an explosive atmosphere with Spartak controlling the very early moments. Aleks Kral in particular was utterly dominant in a lone holding role, allowing Roman Zobnin and Bakaev to roam further forward in possession.

After 13 minutes, Bakaev dribbled across the face of the box, turned sharply to pick out Sobolev who took a touch before rifling it against the post. Shunin was stranded, but flag was up.

N’Jie escaped a cluster of Spartak defenders inside the box with wonderfully quick feet but completely lost his bearings. After 25 minutes he came much closer after latching onto Roman Neustadter’s hopefully clearance in the left channel and outpacing Samuel Gigot, only to see his shot blocked.

Bakaev drifted across the penalty area before sharply turning back to find a teammate. His movement had created space for Sobolev, but the debutant could only glance his header wide.

In a bid to offer more threat up front Kirill Noikov brought on Nikolay Komlichenko 10 minutes into the second half. Within 10 minutes he had hit the woodwork twice.

Komlichenko shrugged off Rasskazov with ease, took a touch to set himself, and struck the foot of the far post from 20 yards. Less than 10 minutes later he managed to strike the crossbar with a clear sight of goal 12 yards out after engineering his own space.

In between those two encounters with Aleksandr Maksimenko’s woodwork, Zobnin doubled Spartak’s advantage with a brilliantly taken shot from 20 yards with his weaker left foot. Kral himself had tried his luck before the break with a firm, low effort that forced Shunin to tip it round the post.

Ezequiel Ponce had two chances to add a third, but Shunin was alert to smother both attempts. Komlichenko’s hold-up play set up N’Jie from 15 yards to hit a powerful effort straight at Maksimenko, but in truth the Spartak keeper had barely been directly troubled.

Dynamo Moscow host FC Tambov on Saturday 7 March, while Spartak Moscow have a Russian Cup quarter final against CSKA Moscow at home on Wednesday 4 March before hosting FC Krasnodar on Monday 9 March in the Russian Premier Liga.
