Djordje Despotovic set Rubin Kazan on their way to a vital win by smashing home an emphatic first-half penalty that Khvicha Kvaratskhelia had earned. Just after the break Dynamo Moscow’s task became even harder when Nikolay Komlichenko was sent off. Although numerical parity was restored in added time when In-beom Hwang saw red, seconds later Sergey Parshivkyuk was also sent off as Rubin held on.

Dynamo drop to fifth - overtaken by Rubin themselves - with 11 points, and travel to take on Akhmat Grozny away next on Monday 21 September. Rubin leapfrog their hosts into the European qualification spots on 11 points, and host Spartak Moscow next on Sunday 20 September.
