The opening matchday of the 2021 Copa América in Group B between Colombia and Ecuador ended with a 1-0 victory for Colombia, thanks to Edwin Cardona's only goal in the 42nd minute. Zenit midfielder Wilmar Barrios played 90 minutes for Colombia. Sochi midfielder Christian Noboa was left out of the squad for Ecuador.

The Copa America takes place in Brazil from 14 June to 10 July. Ten teams participate in the tournament. At the group stage, the participants are divided into two groups of five teams. The first four teams will advance to the quarterfinals.
