Noboa’s Ecuador miss out on a win over Venezuela, Barrios’ Colombia lose to Peru at 2021 Copa America

The 2021 Copa America group stage reached matchday three in Group B.

Ecuador and Venezuela drew 2-2. Ayrton Pressiado and Gonzalo Plata scored for Ecuador, and Edson Castillo and Ronald Hernandez scored for Venezuela, the last one equalized in added time. Sochi midfielder Christian Noboa played his first match of the tournament: the 36-year-old appeared on the field in the 68th minute with the score at 1-1.

Colombia were beaten 2-1 by Peru. Sergio Peña scored for the winners, Miguel Borja scored for Colombia from the penalty spot, and defender Yerry Mina scored an own goal. Colombia’s Zenit midfielder Wilmar Barrios played his third consecutive full match.

At the end of matchday three, Brazil lead the group with six points, while Colombia are second with four points. Next are Peru (three points) and Venezuela (two), while Ecuador prop up the table on one point.

On 24 June, Ecuador will play against Peru, while Colombia will meet Brazil.

The Copa America takes place in Brazil from 14 June to 10 July. Ten teams participate in the tournament; at the group stage, they are divided into two groups of five, with the first four advancing to the quarter-finals.
