Aleksey Sutormin replaces Sergey Petrov in Russia squad

print version

Aleksey Sutormin will replace Sergey Petrov in the Russian squad after the Krasnodar defender suffered a shin injury during training with the national team.

The examination revealed damage to Petrov's lower leg muscles. The player will recover from the injury with his club.

Sutormin was previously called up to the extended Russia squad in May 2019 before the Euro 2020 qualification matches against San Marino and Cyprus, but the coaching staff did not include him in the final list. In this current RPL season, the Zenit winger has scored two goals in six matches (both penalties).

On 28 August, another replacement was made as Lokomotiv midfielder Stanislav Magkeev left the training camp due to hip muscle damage, and Zenit defender Dmitry Chistyakov received a call-up in his place.

The next match for Valery Karpin's team will be held on 1 September at the Luzhniki against Croatia in a 2022 World Cup qualifier. The game will start at 21:45 MSK.
