Nizhny Novgorod 1-2 Lokomotiv Moscow
Saturday 30 October, Nizhny Novgorod Stadium
Goals: Nizhny Novgorod - Berkovsky 31’; Lokomotiv - Zhemaletdinov 37’, Miladinovic (OG) 90+4’
Man of the Match: Rifat Zhemaletdinov (Lokomotiv)
With virtually the last kick of the match, Ivan Miladinovic agonisingly turned the ball into his own net to hand Lokomotiv a dramatic win. Maksim Nenakhov whipped a cross in towards Alexis Beka Beka, but in the end neither the Frenchman nor Nizhny Novgorod keeper Andrey Sinitsin could reach it, leaving the Serbian defender to have the final unfortunate touch.
Ilya Berkovsky scored a brilliantly taken individual goal right on the half-hour mark, although in truth the Lokomotiv defence had a lot to answer for. Canadian forward Richlor Ennin was heavily surrounded by three defenders, but they were all caught ball-watching as a loose ball was snatched up by Berkovsky to burst through a gaping gap in the middle. He held his nerve under pressure from Konstantin Maradishvili and Tin Jedvaj to smash an emphatic finish past Guilherme.
It didn’t take long for Lokomotiv to get back on level terms though, and it was some strike. Maciej Rybus threaded a cross towards Rifat Zhemaletdinov around the edge of the penalty area with seemingly little options available; some quick feet and a dipped shoulder engineered a slither of space for a fantastic low finish.
Just when it seemed Aleksandr Kerzhakov’s team were on course to pick up their first point at home since August, fate intervened in the cruellest of fashions.
Nizhny Novgorod stay 11th on 14 points, while Lokomotiv go second on 24 points.
