Krylia Sovetov Samara 2-0 Rubin Kazan
Saturday 11 December, Solidarnost Samara Arena
Goals: Krylia - Sergeev 62', Pinyaev 85'
Man of the Match: Ivan Sergeev (Krylia)
Ivan Sergeev kept his cool to slot home his first goal in four games to break the deadlock. The Krylia striker waited patiently to volley home Roman Ezhov's cross, with Yuri Dyupin too slow to react.
It had been a relatively tight affair beforehand, with Krylia controlling most of the ball and chances. Anton Zinkovsky struck the post with a teasingly curling effort after half an hour, while Sergeev's clever flick over the top almost carved out a chance for Vladislav Sarveli before being crowded out.
Maksim Glushenkov came off the bench late on with teenage sensation Sergey Pinyaev, and both had key moments.
First Glushenkov somehow turned inside three defenders in one smart turn to leave him eight yards out and only Dyupin to beat. Inexplicably, he decided to pass instead of shoot himself, and Rubin scrambled the danger clear.
Pinyaev sealed the game with five minutes remaining though with his first ever RPL goal. Sergeev unselfishly squared the ball to the 17-year-old forward to sidefoot home thee all-important second and put the result beyond Rubin's reach.
He almost returned the favour in a traditionally electric cameo when his in swinging cross was perfectly judged for Sergeev, but the striker's header was way off.
Krylia go sixth on 27 points, while Rubin remain 10th on 22 points.
