Ural entered the match against RPL leaders with Viktor Gancharenko watching the game from upstairs due to suspension, and for most of the time they remained tied trying to steal first point in St. Petersburg since returning to top division. But Zenit found joker in Ivan Sergeev, who missed last two matches against Khimki and CSKA. Seven minutes after replacing Mateo Cassierra he broke the deadlock with header being assisted by Claudinho, and then tipped the ball sent from Douglas Santos. With five goals scored from the bench Sergeev is the leader of the season.

Zenit remain top with 51 points, while Ural go tenth on 25 points.
